My Learning Goals

Description:
Today we looked through our reports from last year. We identified a next step (goal) for reading, writing and maths. Here are my goals:

Maths: His next step is to count back in tens and ones when subtracting e.g. 56 - 21 as 56, 46, 36, 35.
His next step is to slow down and focus as he reads.
 To achieve this goal I will: practise by pretending to buy things. "I have $63 & I spent $24. How much do I have left? 63 - 10 =53 then 53 - 10= 43 then 43 - 3 - 1 = 39.

Reading: His next step is to slow down and focus as he reads.
To achieve this goal: When reading at home help him to read his stories with you at a controlled pace. When a word is missed or read incorrectly, get him to start again from the beginning of the sentence. This will encourage him to self-correct his mistakes.

Writing: His next step is to work on proof reading and editing.
To achieve this goal I will: First he needs to re-read his work, underlining tricky words, then he can use classroom resources to help him self-edit. You can help him at home by encouraging him to write new endings to the books he reads.

We also looked at our STAR results.
  • Word recognition I got 10 out of 10.
  • Sentence comprehension I got 10 out of 10.
  • Paragraph comprehension I got 12 out of 15.
  • Vocabulary I got 10 out of 10.

I am going to focus on: Paragraph comprehension

To improve in this area I will: Use the links on our class blog.
